Quantum Change

A Holistic Approach

Quantum Change is what Dr Sharanya strives to achieve through exclusively curated programs for High-Achieving Leaders and Executives. It is a unique approach that blends holistic Eastern Practices that target well-being with evidence-based Western based advances in Neuroscience, cognitive psychology and psychotherapy.

A deeply transformational, effective, strategic, and action-oriented Process

The modern day refers to Quantum Change as any dramatic yet enduring transformation that impact personal, emotional, cognitive and behavioural constructs within human life. William James was one of the first to talk about this in Psychology, where he believed such transformations can occur within and outside of the psychotherapy construct.

Quantum Change uses a holarchical approach with the understanding that human development is a never-ending relationship of parts to whole. The basis for the framework stems from the ubiquitous acceptance of the three major aspects of human beings – Mind, Body and Soul where each have their own representation across the life-span.

There is wide support for three domains that pertain to the human mind (personality)  (e.g., Eysenck, 1947; Miller, 1991; Norman, 1980):

1) cognition (knowing, understanding, thinking);

2) affect (feelings, emotions, attitudes, predispositions); and

3) conation (volition, will, intentions to act, reasons for taking action).  The mind receives and processes information then manifests action through the body.

Body can be considered in terms of:

1) biological or genetic influences;

2) bodily functioning, and

3) overt behaviour going into a feedback loop into the spiritual dimension of how human beings relate to themselves, to others, and approach the unknowns of life. It is the integral component of how they define and strengthen themselves.

The spiritual domain alludes to how human beings relate to themselves, to others, and how they approach the unknowns in life including nature and transcendence. It spans a wide range from religious to humanistic ends of the spectrum.  The spiritual dimension can be broken down into:

  1. Relation to self or the Personal domain—wherein the focus is on oneself with regards to meaning and values in life. Self-awareness is the impetus achieved through strengthening values and the search for identity and self-worth.
  2. Purpose meaning encompasses internal harmony and intentional self-development. It arises from the congruence between expressed and experienced events that bring meaning and build on values.
  3. Relation to Others/Connectedness or the Communal domain— are brought through the quality and depth of inter-personal relationships and are scaffolded by morality, culture and faith. Acts of kindness, compassion, trust, home and forgiveness are fostered through this domain.
  4. Environmental domain— is where the connection to realms beyond that of the physical and biological states are established. The experience is oftentimes that or awe, wonder and a sense of unity with the environment.

The hypothesis is that Quantum Change can occur when an individual’s thinking, feeling, intent, spiritual orientation and overt behaviours work in tandem and develop as a result of a deep understanding of:

  • how transactions amongst various components of the mind occur
  • as influenced by the biological development and bodily functioning,
  • alongside the growth within the spiritual dimension,
  • the environment/contextual understanding of their world and
  • the continuous feedback loop based on their overt behaviours and actions.

Relations between the domains and mental health are in part mediated by connections to self. The lack of integration in values of self vs that of their organization often puts executives in the space of mistrust and with compromised wellbeing.

While quantum change by itself cannot be engineered, it can be fostered through creation of an environment conducive to such positive transformation and equipping individuals with knowledge and tools to drive this change.

The Quantum Change you achieve within can help bring a Quantum of Change into your personal and professional worlds
